Chelsea were founded in 1905 specifically to fill Stamford Bridge (the stadium existed first). For most of their history they were a fashionable but trophy-light London club. Roman Abramovich’s takeover in 2003 changed everything — in 19 years of ownership he spent over £1 billion and Chelsea won five Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and numerous other trophies. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government and forced to sell. American consortium BlueCo took over and have spent enormous sums — over £1 billion in just three transfer windows — in a controversial period of recruitment.
One of the most expensively assembled squads in football history — Chelsea spend more on players than almost any club on earth
The Champions League win in 2012 — beating Bayern Munich on penalties in their own stadium
The Abramovich era — transforming Chelsea from also-rans into genuine elite
Stamford Bridge — a compact, atmospheric ground in Fulham that the club has been trying to redevelop for years
The controversy surrounding their spending since 2022 — signing players on long contracts at huge fees
One of the most creative players in the Premier League — despite being controversially left out of the England World Cup squad. His ability to score and create from central positions is extraordinary.
World Cup winner with Argentina. Bought for a British record fee. A technically excellent deep-lying midfielder who controls the tempo of play.
Stamford Bridge has been Chelsea‘s home since 1905. Capacity 40,341 in Fulham, west London. A compact ground where the fans are close to the pitch — creates a good atmosphere for big matches. Chelsea have long planned to redevelop it but planning and ownership complications have delayed progress for years.
Premier League: 6. FA Cup: 8. League Cup: 5. Champions League: 2. Europa League: 2. Conference League: 1.
Arsenal (west v north London), Tottenham (west London derby), Manchester United, Liverpool.
Final position: Around 5th-8th — European qualification
A turbulent season for Chelsea. Maresca was sacked in January. They reached The FA Cup final under Rosenior but lost 1-0 to Manchester City. The appointment of Xabi Alonso signals serious ambition for 2026/27.
