About Football Explained
Football Explained exists for one simple reason: football should be for everyone.
If you’ve ever sat in a pub while everyone around you explodes at a VAR decision and had absolutely no idea what just happened — this site is for you. If you’ve ever nodded along when your partner or colleague talks about the Premier League, secretly Googling terms under the table — this site is for you. If you’re supporting England at the World Cup this summer and want to actually understand what you’re watching — this site is definitely for you.
Football Explained is a plain-English guide to everything happening in football. No jargon without explanation. No assumed knowledge. No eye-rolling at your questions. Just clear, honest, useful information — whether you’re watching your first match or your five hundredth.
Who We Are
[This section is personal — Sabrina to write in her own voice. Suggested structure below:]
Football Explained is a family project. [Add your personal reason for starting it — the World Cup, wanting the family to have something to work on together, your love of football.] My name is Sabrina, and I’m the founder. I’m joined by [names of family members and their roles — keep it warm and human].
[Add 2–3 sentences on what football means to your family. This is where the emotional heart of the About page lives. Don’t overthink it — write it like you’d tell a friend.]
What You'll Find Here
Football Explained is built around three things:
- The basics — if you’re completely new to football, start with our Football 101 guide or browse the glossary. We explain everything from offside to the Champions League, in plain English with no assumed knowledge.
- The World Cup 2026 — the biggest sporting event in the world is coming to the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer. We’ve built a complete guide to everything you need to know, starting with England’s squad and their path through the tournament.
- The Premier League and beyond — the week’s results, the transfer drama, the controversies and the stories that make football so endlessly fascinating. All explained simply, so you can join the conversation.
Who This Is For
- Partners and family members of football fans who want to understand what all the fuss is about
- People who feel left out of the football conversation at work and want to keep up
- England supporters who want to follow the World Cup properly this summer
- Anyone who’s ever Googled “what does offside mean” at half time — welcome, you’re among friends
You don’t need to have grown up watching football. You don’t need to know the difference between a centre-back and a central midfielder. You just need to be curious. We’ll handle the rest.
A Note on How We Write
Every page on Football Explained is written with one question in mind: would someone who has never watched football understand this? If the answer is no, we rewrite it until it is. When we use a technical term for the first time, we always explain it. When something is complicated, we take our time with it. And when something is funny, we say so — because football is supposed to be enjoyable.
